Act I

Here we are on the Santa Monica campus of foob, a high-end wellness brand with a hot new Women’s History Month promo starring CEO Felicity Birch. When the video bombs, Felicity pivots with a radically democratized vision for foob, advocating “wellness for all” alongside her protegée, Social Media Director Nevaeh Freeman. A biracial Black woman and foob’s media darling, Nevaeh is loving blissed-out life in Tinseltown, even as she promises her best friend Ezra they can revolutionize healthcare working at foob. As Felicity rolls out her rebrand, Nevaeh is promoted to SVP and pitches her and Ezra’s youth empowerment initiative, Project Girl, as the centerpiece of foob’s PropheSHE summit. Life at foob transforms with the arrival of Reynolds Whitaker, a recently “cancelled” white businesswoman from Manhattan taking Nevaeh’s old job. When Nevaeh endorses Reynolds’ media-savvy “Skid Row Deserves to Glow” proposal for Project Girl over Ezra’s idealistic but commercially unpromising pitch, Ezra resigns. As the PropheSHE nears, Reynolds spearheads a series of spot ads showcasing foob’s “woke A.F.” approach to wellness. Despite Nevaeh’s criticism of the campaign’s increasingly race-coded aesthetic, it falls on deaf ears when the PropheSHE sells out. The night before the summit, Nevaeh finally reckons with her complicity at foob when Felicity prevails on her to bury a sexual assault allegation. Nevaeh comes clean at the PropheSHE, yet Felicity has one more pivot up her sleeve: by introducing yet another company rebrand, this one centered around mental health, foob is back on top as Act I ends.
